Why Use A SMS Gateway | internet free

The main drawback to SMS messaging for business communications is that Short Message Service Centres SMSCs developed by different companies use their own communication protocol and most of these protocols are exclusive. An SMSC is the portion of a wireless network that handles SMS operations, such as routing, forwarding and storing incoming text messages on their way to desired endpoints. This means that the two centres cannot be connected if they don?t support a common protocol unless a gateway is put in place.
An SMS gateway acts as a device or service offering SMS transit by transforming messages to mobile network traffic from other media, or by allowing transmission or receipt of SMS messages with or without the use of a mobile phone. SMS can be sent online to a mobile phone and vice versa using web browsers, email or a HTTP interface/API. The gateway is placed between two SMSCs and acts as a relay between them, translating one protocol to another one. Gateways are used to facilitate SMS traffic between businesses and mobile subscribers, including mission-critical messages, SMS for enterprises, and content delivery. Some gateways have more features than others. Some allow you to compose messages to more than one recipient, create group lists, manage messages, and send pre-set or customized replies.
Organisations find themselves benefitting from the simplicity offered by a gateway, without which a business? SMS messaging application increases in complexity and development time, therefore wasting valuable time and money. Wireless carriers, content providers and SMS application developers may find an SMS gateway particularly useful. If an organisation chooses to support more SMSCs, all they have to do is modify the settings of the gateway. With a public gateway you can send a message to a device on another network, and friends or business associates without SMS-equipped phones or pagers can send messages to you. This is particularly useful and convenient way to keep in contact if you don?t have access to your e-mail account, or an SMS-equipped phone.

Report: Silicon Valley sees growth in jobs, wealth (AP)

SAN FRANCISCO ? Silicon Valley is creating jobs and wealth for highly skilled workers but may be leaving some residents behind as employment closes in on pre-Great Recession levels, according to a report released Tuesday.

The 2012 Silicon Valley Index found job growth in the high-tech hub far outpaced the country as a whole last year. The region added 42,000 jobs, a jump of nearly 4 percent, compared with a nationwide increase of little more than 1 percent.

The current unemployment rate in the region stands at 8.3 percent, the same as the national average but well below the overall state rate of 10.9 percent.

Job growth occurred in all major sectors of the Silicon Valley economy except manufacturing. Key industries adding jobs included cloud computing, mobile devices, mobile apps, Internet companies and social media.

"Silicon Valley does seem to be mounting a fairly impressive recovery," said Russell Hancock, president and chief executive of Joint Venture Silicon Valley, a nonprofit that compiles the index annually along with the Silicon Valley Community Foundation. "We were the last to succumb to the national recession, and we appear to be the first emerging out of it."

Hancock said the improving economy hasn't resulted in the same widespread benefits as previous periods of growth. In the past, he said, advances in the high-tech industry would also create many mid-level jobs that served as the "spine" of Silicon Valley.

This time around, what Hancock called a "bonanza" for highly educated workers hasn't trickled down.

Per capita income for the four-county region covered by the index rose to $66,000 last year due to rising wealth among high earners.

The report does not provide a median income figure for 2011, but the number dropped by 3 percent between 2009 and 2010, and the percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunches rose.

"Technology used to be this tide that would rise and lift all the boats," Hancock said. "That doesn't seem to be the case anymore."

Optimism among investors has helped drive the region's return to prosperity for those with the right science, engineering and business skills. Venture capital investments rose by 17 percent last year, the third increase in as many years following a sharp drop after the 2008 economic downturn.

Investments in software jumped in 2011, but the biggest leap was a doubling in backing for so-called clean technology. Most of the $3 billion poured into the industry went toward efforts to develop alternative energy sources.

Other signs that Silicon Valley was retaining its reputation as the country's innovation engine included a 30 percent surge in patent registrations in 2010 compared with the year before. The region's 13,300 new patents represented 12 percent of all the patents registered in the U.S. that year, the report said.

Speaking to Promote

Public speaking can be an author?s greatest marketing tool. It opens up unique promotional opportunities. It can supplement the author?s income. It sells books! And in today?s market, authors need to employ every possible angle.

At its most basic, speaking places the author in front of real human beings. The lure of the Internet has prompted more and more authors to remain hidden behind a website. While blogs and social sites provide a certain measure of interaction, it cannot replace real-world contact and physical appearances. Readers like to know about the creator behind the book, and meeting an author in person provides a human quality that is lacking online.

Not every writer is destined to be a professional speaker, but learning the craft is vital. For the introverted author too nervous to speak in front of two people, let alone a crowd, training is required. A media coach teaches poise and confidence. An organization such as Toastmasters offers critique sessions in a secure environment. Public speaking courses are available at almost every college. There are ample opportunities to train and prepare for public speaking.

Remember, there is power in the spoken word! Now, how do we use that power?

At the very least, every author should be able to discuss his own book. This will be required for signings, book readings, and library appearances. Book clubs and writer?s groups are also open to the author. These opportunities provide more than just a personal touch, as promotional materials distributed by the author can influence later sales.?

However, magic happens when an author moves beyond his book and develops a platform around his area of expertise. This should be a natural transition for the non-fiction writer. His education, skills, and experience led to the book?s creation, and he can build a platform around this very knowledge. This doesn?t preclude the fiction writer, though. Every book requires research, and a level of expertise is required to write fiction as well. Regardless of genre, all authors possess the ability to develop a platform and message.

The author who markets himself as a speaker gains several advantages. Professional speakers usually receive payment for their services. Speaking engagements can supplement royalties (which are rarely enough to live on) and the income from day jobs. These events often allow for back of room sales, netting additional income. An author with a platform is also more appealing to the media, as they want experts who can inform and entertain. The author who delivers what the media seeks and desires gains exposure to a far greater audience.

The list of venues for speakers is endless: libraries; businesses; schools; churches; colleges; writer and book festivals; organizations; clubs; conferences; etc. All of these provide an opportunity to reach a wider audience and generate greater books sales. Once established as a professional speaker, the author?s reputation will drive the sales of future books as well, thus laying the groundwork for a long career!
